Every person’s mental health journey is different. Behind every diagnosis, challenge and recovery is a real person with a story worth hearing.

On October 10, 2026, World Mental Health Day brings people and organizations around the globe together to raise awareness, reduce stigma and advocate for better mental health support.

This year’s World Mental Health Day campaign theme, “Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change,” emphasizes something that should be at the center of mental health care every day: listening to people with lived experience.

At Pillar Health and Kenosha Community Health Center (KCHC), we believe behavioral health care begins with seeing and listening to the whole person. Our teams provide accessible behavioral health services for children, adolescents and adults throughout Kenosha, Racine, Silver Lake and Southeast Wisconsin.

Lived Experiences Heard: Real Voices, Real Change

The World Federation for Mental Health’s World Mental Health Day 2026 campaign calls attention to the importance of lived experience in shaping mental health systems, services and communities.

Listening matters.

People living with mental health challenges can offer valuable insight into what support feels helpful, where barriers exist and how communities and healthcare systems can better respond to individual needs.

It also reminds us that a person is more than a diagnosis.

Mental health conditions can affect people of every age and background. Experiences with anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationships and other mental health concerns can look different from one person to another.

Making room for those experiences helps reduce stigma and creates opportunities for people to seek help without feeling defined by what they are experiencing.

Building Community: Supporting Mental Well-Being Together

World Mental Health Day also coincides with Mental Illness Awareness Week in the United States. The 2026 NAMI theme, “Building Community: Supporting Mental Well-Being Together,” reinforces the importance of connection and community in supporting mental health.

Mental well-being isn’t solely an individual responsibility.

Families, friends, schools, workplaces, healthcare providers and communities can all help create environments where people feel safe asking for support.

That can start with something as simple as:

  • Listening without judgment.
  • Checking in with someone who may be struggling.
  • Learning more about mental health conditions.
  • Avoiding language that reinforces stigma.
  • Encouraging someone to seek professional support when they need it.
  • Making mental health conversations a normal part of overall health and wellness.

Sometimes the most meaningful thing we can do is make sure someone knows they don’t have to navigate a difficult time alone.

Mental Health Is Part of Whole-Person Health

Mental health and physical health are closely connected, which is why behavioral health is an important part of the integrated care available through Pillar Health and KCHC.

Our Behavioral Health Services are designed to support patients with a variety of mental health and emotional needs.

Depending on the patient’s needs, care may include therapy, counseling, psychiatric evaluation and treatment, or coordination with other members of the healthcare team.

Behavioral Health Services Available Through Pillar Health and KCHC

Mental health support isn’t one-size-fits-all. Pillar Health and KCHC offer services designed to address different needs, ages and life experiences.

Psychotherapy Services include individual and group therapy grounded in evidence-based approaches to help patients address mental health concerns and work toward personal goals.

Anxiety can affect your thoughts, emotions, relationships, sleep, work and daily activities. Anxiety Therapy can help individuals better understand anxiety, identify triggers and develop strategies for managing symptoms.

Depression can affect how a person feels, thinks and functions in everyday life. Depression Counseling provides a supportive environment to address symptoms and work toward improved emotional well-being.

Relationships can experience periods of stress, conflict and change. Couples Counseling can help couples improve communication, work through challenges and strengthen their relationships.

Traumatic experiences can continue to affect a person’s thoughts, emotions, relationships and physical well-being long after an event has occurred. Trauma Therapy provides support for individuals working through the effects of trauma.

Children and teens experience mental health challenges, too. Child & Adolescent Therapy provides age-appropriate support for young people navigating emotional, behavioral, social and mental health concerns.

For some patients, medication and psychiatric care may be an important part of treatment. Pillar Health and KCHC offer Psychiatry Services, including comprehensive psychiatric evaluations and individualized treatment planning.

Finding the Right Approach for You

Just as every person’s lived experience is different, the therapeutic approach that works best can differ from one person to another.

Pillar Health and KCHC behavioral health providers may use a variety of evidence-based approaches depending on a patient’s needs and treatment goals, including:

A behavioral health provider can help determine which approach may be appropriate based on an individual’s needs, experiences and goals.

Your Experience Deserves to Be Heard

World Mental Health Day is one day, but listening, understanding and supporting mental health must continue all year.

If you’re struggling, asking for help doesn’t require having the perfect words or knowing exactly what kind of care you need. Starting a conversation with a healthcare or behavioral health provider can be the first step toward identifying the support that’s right for you.

And if someone shares their experience with you, listen. Their story matters.

Real voices can lead to real understanding. Real understanding can lead to real change.
